Film for the Swedish Chemicals Agency

“We did blood tests for the inhabitants of our community. Out of 109 samples, only 6 were safe. The rest were at risk,” Kampo Promat from Thailand recalls.

We met Kampo in the end of 2018, while producing a video for the Swedish Chemicals Agency about their project ”Towards a Non-Toxic South-East Asia”. This project lasted for 11 years in six Asian countries where chemicals are used and produced actively, but with insufficient regulation: Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Kemi has worked with legislators, educators, and local communities to promote the safe use of agricultural and other potentially dangerous chemicals. Global Reporting has planned and organized the shooting, conducted the interviews, developed the script, and edited the final material.

In this film, we gather experiences from farmers, industry, authorities, educators, and researchers:

Journalistic assignments

Several of our staff are journalists and we are regularly on journalistic assignments around the world. We write and contribute on a regular basis to several radio programs as well as to magazines and news papers. Over recent years, we have published independent journalistic magazines such as KTH&Co, Universitetsläraren, and Barnens Framtid.

Since 2016, Global Reporting has been publishing OmVärlden.se – Sweden’s leading magazine about internetional development. Five of our staff members have been serving as the editorial team, publishing news, analytics, and visual material on development issues around the world. Among the topic of special interest covered by OmVärlden’s journalists are poverty, gender equality, climate change, access to education, democratic development. Some of the investigations conducted by OmVärlden have gained a great public interest. For example, after the magazine uncovered malpractice in the operation of the organisation International Idea, its head Yves Leterme has left his position. Also, multiple experts, officials, and researchers have published their opinion and debate articles at OmVärlden.

In 2018, OmVärldens special project OmVärlden Berrätar received the Publishing Prize in the category “Web”. The justification provided by the jury was “For a great site with strong image journalism that creates emotion and atmosphere and drives the story forward”.

World Urban Forum

Sida

At the World Urban Forum in Nanjing, China, Sida wanted to showcase a holistic and people-centered approach to urban development. Global Reporting decided to involve photographers from around the world to collect ordinary people’s thoughts about how they wanted to change their hometowns. One hundred images were gathered for a slideshow that was projected in Sida’s stand. Visitors to the forum were given the opportunity to the write down their thoughts on how to improve the urban environment. Also these images were added to the slideshow. This interactive concept turned out to be a huge success!
Global Reporting produced the Sida exhibit, slideshows, invitations, brochure, T-shirts and a final report.
