Global Reporting is launching the Ukraine Media Ecosystem (UME) project. The aim of the project is to assist Ukrainian media in developing sustainable business and organizational models (ecosystems) to enhance their capacity as independent entities and support the process toward EU integration. The program is organized by Global Reporting in Sweden and the Human Rights Platform in Ukraine, with funding provided by the Swedish Institute.

Independent media are a crucial pillar of any democratic society. However, to survive and become sustainable, media in Ukraine must develop and establish an ecosystem that strengthens their financial foundation.

A key area for the future is building a financial base for a long-term sustainable media market, creating professional models for subscriptions and other revenue-generating solutions. Artificial intelligence, media ethics, and professionalization are also key areas when building a sustainable media ecosystem where trust plays a vital role.

New technologies, upcoming EU-aligned legislation, and other reform processes also require Ukrainian media to become more professional to fulfill their role as watchdogs in a democratic society.

Through the UME project, a learning environment is being created where Swedish and international experts will share their practical experiences on topics such as financial management, onboarding and UX design, artificial intelligence, together with media development in general.
