The report Unpaid Debt was launched in 2010 by the organization European Coalition on Oil in Sudan (ECOS). The objective was to get compensation for the victims of the oil wars in what is today South Sudan. Oil companies Lundin Petroleum from Sweden, OMV of Austria and Petronas of Malaysia, may have been involved in the war crimes that were committed.
Global Reporting was contracted to follow up the report through seminars, newsletters, and support for journalists and organizations interested in the issue.
